The Disappearing Lake

Medicine Lake is a 9-km-long lake near Jasper Alberta… sometimes. Other times it’s not there at all. A 30-meter-deep lake in summer; a few months later, a patch of mud. And there’s no river to drain the lake. Where does it go? Is there a drain in the bottom? If so, who pulls the plug? The local First Nations people might know the secret; they call it “Magic Lake.”
